Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait

February 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

Join us Monday, February 21, 2022, for ACFL&MH’s fifth Presidents Day concert featuring Aaron Copland’s beloved symphonic work, Lincoln Portrait.

Renowned mezzo-soprano and Artistic Director of Pittsburgh Festival Opera Marianne Cornetti, will narrate the Copland piece. James Gourlay, well known to Pittsburgh audiences as the Music Director of River City Brass Band, will lead Duquesne’s Wind Symphony.

Aaron Copland composed Lincoln Portrait in 1942, during the dark, frightening years of World War II. The orchestra score incorporates some of Lincoln’s most gripping oratory, with the narrator speaking over the music.

Join us before the concert for guided tours of a true national treasure The Capt. Thomas Espy Post, one of the last remaining Grand Army of the Republic Posts left in the country.

Covid-19 Protocols: The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall requires masks to be worn inside the building by everyone age three and older, vaccinated or unvaccinated.
