African American Muslims in Pittsburgh: A historical lecture with Sarahjameela Martin

Join Sarahjameela Martin, president of the Muslim Women’s Association of Pittsburgh, for a fascinating peek into the history of Pittsburgh’s Black Muslim community. Learn about the Black Americans who migrated to Pittsburgh from the South, and their determination to create a home for their Islamic faith in their new city. The first mosque established in the state of Pennsylvania was Al-Masjid al-Awwal, located in Pittsburgh’s historic Hill District, and is still a vibrant and thriving center for worship and community today.
