Virtual Museum Spotlight: David Bradford House & Whiskey Rebellion Education Center

October 25, 2023 @ 5:00 pm 6:00 pm

David Bradford was a successful lawyer, businessman and Deputy Attorney General of Washington County. His home was an architectural showpiece of the time, and the Bradford family lived in the house from 1788 to 1794. However, their residence was cut short because of David’s leadership role in the Whiskey Rebellion, an uprising of farmers and distillers in western Pennsylvania who opposed a whiskey tax enacted by the federal government. When 13,000 troops were sent to end the protest, David fled south to present-day Louisiana to avoid being arrested.

At this virtual program, Board President and Education Committee Member Denise Cummins will delve into David Bradford’s background and highlight the history of the site, including what you may see during your visit. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and learn more! Registration is required. Click here to register!

This virtual program is part of a series promoting the Experience Kits initiative at select public libraries and is sponsored by the Heinz Center Affiliates Program (HCAP). With your library card, receive free admission passes for up to four people to several local museums and historical sites. Learn more here!
