RADical Days at the Carnegie Carnegie

September 17, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

The Carnegie Carnegie is funded in part by the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD). Join us for a celebration of the organizations that make our county so special with 2022’s RADical Days!

Visit the Library & Music Hall today for an open house featuring our magnificent historic building; tours of the one-of-a-kind national treasure that is the Espy Post Civil War room; and the following special programs:

12:00 PM – Explore the Ecosystem of Library Park

Join Western PA Conservancy for a nature exploration of the trees, plantlife, and animals who call Library Park their home! Discover how local ecosystems work and learn about the importance of green space in city and suburban environments. Make a nature craft and enjoy our mosaic benches. Suitable for all ages.

1:00 PM – Guardians of Sound

Guardians of Sound enlivens the human experience through music making that promotes and employs acoustic sound and acoustic instruments. On the other hand, the majority of contemporary hip hop is electronically generated. Guardians of Sound is comprised of professional, pre-professional and youth musicians.

Led by veteran guitarist and educator Michael Chapman, Guardians of Sound’s exciting performances showcase the potential of hip-hop as a live, instrument-based genre, bringing the music back to its roots in soul and R&B.

3:30 PM – The Pittsburgh Savoyards

The Pittsburgh Savoyards return to the Carnegie Carnegie with highlights from last spring’s performance of “Pirates of Penzance.” Cast members reunite in the Studio with such favorites as “The Modern Major General,” “I Am a Pirate King!” and “Poor Wandering One.” Not fully staged, but a vocal version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular operetta. Know the words? Feel free to sing along with the cast!

Registration is not required.
