Life is lived through the full range of human emotion, and Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble’s new production, Expressions, brings that range to the stage. Two special guests join Kyiv for a program of music, movement, and storytelling.
From Washington, DC, comes Gerdan: Kaleidoscope of Ukrainian Music, founded by Grammy-winning flutist Andrei Pidkivka and violinist Solomia Gorokhivska. Gerdan draws on centuries-old folk melodies and rhythms and reimagines them in original arrangements that blend in jazz, Americana, and contemporary styles.
Kyiv also teams up with Pittsburgh’s Confluence Ballet and photographer Michael Haritan on a new piece marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.
Come early for the Ukrainian Marketplace, opening at 2 PM, with treats from the Ukrainian Bakery and vendors offering Ukrainian cultural goods.
