Indestructible Featuring Roger Humphries| Celebrating 125 Years of Carnegie Carnegie
May 1 @ 7:00 pm
The Carnegie Carnegie turns 125! Don’t miss this major milestone celebration featuring legendary drummer Roger Humphries and Carnegie’s own Reggie Watkins on trombone, performing with the Pittsburgh-based Hard-Bop sextet Indestructible. Join us in the Studio for cake & drinks after the show.
Indestructible celebrates the music and legacy of The Jazz Messengers, performing compositions by the greats like Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton and others. The Jazz Messengers were a jazz combo for over thirty-five years beginning in the early 1950s as a collective, and ending when long time leader and founding drummer Art Blakey died in 1990.
Indestructible is a jazz sextet led by trombonist Reggie Watkins and features master drummer Roger Humphries. As a young musician, Roger Humphries was influenced and mentored by his godfather and leader of The Jazz Messengers, Art Blakey. “It is a special treat to hear Roger in this musical context..”, says Reggie Watkins..” Roger Humphries is the perfect drummer for a tribute to Art Blakey.” Indestructible showcases some of the region’s most talented musicians like Michael Tomaro (sax), James Moore (trumpet), Michael Bernabe (piano), Jordan McBride (bass) and several others. This high energy and relentlessly swinging group delivers blues infused improvisations, masterful arrangements and big band excitement.
