This Spring, we’re reading and discussing How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them by Jason Stanley. Stanley is the Bissell-Heyd Chair in American studies in the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto and a distinguished professor at the Kyiv School of Economics. In this 2018 book, he focuses on the role of rhetoric, propaganda, scapegoating, hierarchy, and emotionality in the development of fascism, considering examples that range from Nazi Germany to the contemporary United States.
