Join us for a full day of Civil War scholarship
Due to the Annual Carnegie VFD 5K Race – Starting at 8 am to approximately 9 am the following streets will have closures/detours: West Main St., Mansfield Blvd., East Main St., parts of 3rd Ave., 2nd St., Jefferson St., Veterans Way, Cubbage St., and Logan Street. Use caution and expect some delays until the race is over.
It is best to approach the Library from Washington Pike (Route 50), turn at Christy Ave. (Boys & Girls Club on the corner) then make a right onto Beechwood.

Lecture: Civil War for the Masses: Bridging the Gap Between Academia and the Modern Public
Richard Condon is a public historian based out of Western Pennsylvania. For nine years he has worked in the field at a multitude of sites, including Franklin Battlefield, Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and Flight 93 National Memorial. He currently operates and writes for Civil War Pittsburgh.

Mr. Smeltzer was born and raised in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He has published in the Journal of Civil War History, Civil War Monitor, Civil War Times and America’s Civil War. He has presented programs on Bull Run in six states and the District of Columbia and leads tours of the battlefield of First Bull Run.

Craig Swain hails from Missouri, and received a BA in History from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo. After college he served as an officer in the Army for eight years. He has written several articles for Civil War Times, America’s Civil War, and other magazines. His blog focuses on battlefields, historical markers, and artillery.
