More than 230 Daughters of Charity served as nurses during the Civil War. This talk will trace the contributions of these Catholic sisters during and after the 1863 battle of Gettysburg. Their courageous work left a lasting mark on the town of Gettysburg, and changed the anti-Catholic sentiment that permeated the local culture.
Dominish Marie Miller is the Third Circuit Court of Appeals Librarian for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. She is the founder of Preserving the History of Newberrytown, runs the Lewisberry Area History Lovers group, and is a founding board member of the Newberrytown Special Events Committee. She also serves as Librarian and VIS Chair for the Harrisburg chapter, NSDAR.
Dominish also reenacts with Co. C, 87th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, where she portrays a second corporal. She is the author of two cookbooks, and two local history books.
