Carnegie Carnegie Open House and Rhythm in Blue, the Air Force’s 18-Piece Jazz Band
April 2, 2017 @ 12:00 am
Sunday, April 2, 2017, 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Rhythm in Blue’s concert will be the capstone event of an Open House (1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) that showcases all three floors of the Library & Music Hall. “Part of what we want to do is welcome people to just come in, meet us, and discover more about all the Library has to offer,” says Library Director Diane Klinefelter, “but we have a few special things planned.” She wants to put a special push on people who don’t yet have one signing up for a Library card. “All you need is a photo I.D. with your current address or, if you’ve recently moved, a photo I.D. plus something with your current address.” Children who can write their own name are eligible for and encouraged to get their own cards, though their parents must be with them, and agree to assume responsibility for their children’s borrowing and returning.
Assistant Library Director Nate Wyrick will be on hand to help people with problems they have with their “devices” (notebooks, smartphones, kindles, etc.) and to gather information about what patrons need more help with. Tech-savvy volunteers from Carlynton will be available to assist him with that.
New Children’s & Youth Services Librarian Elizabeth Shedlock will be on hand with craft activities for pre-schoolers through middle-schoolers. Carnegie favorite Jeff Keenan will be drawing free caricatures in the Lincoln Gallery and the Espy Post will be open during throughout the Open House.
As a special treat, very local jazz ensemble (Rich Laus hails from Rennerdale) RLM Jazz will perform in the Studio from 1:15 –2:45. Art from the Carlynton Community Arts Extravaganza will still be on display in the Studio, where light refreshments will be served.
