SUMMARY:"Traveling Our Road": An author visit with Dylan Weiss
DESCRIPTION:Author Dylan Weiss (aka Gail Neustadt) shares and discusses her new book Traveling Our Road\, which gently explores issues of illness\, caregiving\, communication\, and love. Join us for an evening of storytelling\, light bites\, and book signings and sales. \n\n\n\nTraveling Our Road is a complex story simplified for children of all ages. The “Road” becomes a central character shared by Dylan and DJ\, both of whom are faced with tragic circumstances – DJ’s early onset Alzheimer’s disease\, and Dylan’s role as a caregiver. Sustained by love and commitment\, the author explains some of the challenges they face along their Road and the illustrator makes the story jump off its pages into your heart. \n\n\n\nReplete with verbal and visual symbolism\, the story invites children to consider how they might communicate with impaired loved ones. \n\n\n\nRegistration is appreciated\, although walk-ins are welcome. Please click here to register.

SUMMARY:Stage 62 presents "Urinetown"
DESCRIPTION:Performances on November 10\, 11\, 12\, 17\, 18\, & 19 at 8:00 pm and 13 & 20 at 2:00 pm \n\n\n\nIn a Gotham-like city\, a terrible water shortage caused by a 20-year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people\, a hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom! \n\n\n\nInspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill\, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be\, Urinetown catapults the “comedic romp” into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective\, wickedly modern wit\, and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS

SUMMARY:Veterans Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Please join Congressman Conor Lamb\, members of Carnegie American Legion Post 82\, members of the 9th Pennsylvania Reserves\, elected officials\, friends and colleagues at 1:30 pm on Veterans Day\, Friday November 11.   We are delighted that sixth graders from Carnegie Elementary school are participating in the program with brief poetry readings.  The short\, moving ceremony ends with a bugler playing Taps. \n\n\n\nWhen we developed Library Park\, a flagpole opposite the Library entrance became an essential part of the design.  Since November 2017\, a Veterans Day ceremony has become tradition at the Library & Music Hall. \n\n\n\nAs home to the Captain Thomas Espy Post No. 153 of the Grand Army of the Republic\, Veterans Day has a special resonance at the Carnegie Carnegie.  Founded in 1866 for veterans of the Union Armed Service\, the G.A.R. laid the foundation for all veterans’ organizations to come. The Espy Post has been documented as the most intact G.A.R. post in the country. \n\n\n\nThe ceremony will be followed a coffee and cookies reception in the Lincoln Gallery.  The Captain Thomas Espy Post will be open from 12:30 until 3:00. \n\n\n\nThe ceremony takes place rain or shine.

SUMMARY:2nd Saturday Civil War Series: Fraternity\, Charity\, and Loyalty: Politics & Memory at Pittsburgh's 28th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic with Rich Condon
DESCRIPTION:**PLEAESE NOTE THE LATER 2:00PM START TIME** \n\n\n\nIn Person in the Lincoln Gallery at ACFL&MH Facebook: www.facebook.com/CarnegieCarnegie No Account Required!Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9370579279 Meeting ID: 937 057 9279 \n\n\n\nAs thousands of onlookers descended on the City of Pittsburgh in September 1894\, they did so with anticipation – a chance to see aging Union veterans of the War of the Rebellion alive and in the flesh. The thinning ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) were gathering for their 28th National Encampment\, and members from across the country prepared to meet old comrades once again. \n\n\n\nThe G.A.R. represented certain values for all of its members through their main principles\, “Fraternity\, Charity\, Loyalty\,” yet there were still many inequities to overcome for the organization’s African American membership. An event such as this was the perfect opportunity for those in attendance to discuss national issues at large\, at a time when political and social strife intersected with how the late war would be remembered. \n\n\n\nRich Condon is a historian from Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania with a BA in public history from Shepherd University. For ten years he has worked with a multitude of sites and organizations including The Battle of Franklin Trust\, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum\, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park\, Flight 93 National Memorial\, and since Spring 2020 Rich has served as a park ranger at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park in Beaufort\, South Carolina. He has written for Civil War Times\, The American Battlefield Trust\, as well as Emerging Civil War\, and operates the Civil War Pittsburgh blog\, which focuses on the interpretation of Western Pennsylvania’s role in the Civil War. \n\n\n\n2nd Saturday Lectures made possible by the Massey Charitable Trust
