SUMMARY:Veterans Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Veterans Day ceremony at the Carnegie Carnegie carries special resonance. The ACFL&MH is home to the Captain Thomas Espy Post of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).  The Grand Army of the Republic was the progenitor of all veterans’ groups in this country.  \n\n\n\nCongressman Chris Deluzio will serve as the master of ceremonies for the program.  Congressman Deluzio\, who represents PA’s 17th District\, is a United States Naval Academy graduate and Iraq War veteran\, a voting rights attorney and a union organizer. \n\n\n\nThe ACFL&MH is grateful to veterans from Carnegie’s American Legion Post 82\, who have been part of the Library & Music Hall’s annual ceremony since its inception.  Members of the 9th PA Reserves\, a Civil War living history and re-enactment group\, also participates in the program.  Students from Carnegie Elementary will read poem as part of the ceremony. \n\n\n\nThis brief but moving ceremony takes place rain or shine. Join us for cookies and coffee in the Lincoln Gallery. . Consider staying for our “Second Saturday Civil War Series\,” moved back to 2:00 pm. to accommodate the Veterans Day ceremony.  Writer\, historian and educator Codie Eash will speak about Abraham Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg\, commemorating the 160th Anniversary (November 19\, 1863) of his deliverance of “The Gettysburg Address.”

He went on to tour and record with the likes of Carly Simon\, Billy Joel\, Elton John and Amy Grant \n\n\n\nOn keyboards and vocals\, Scott Anderson is an Emmy Award-winning composer\, music director and producer. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a symphonic tribute to Abraham Lincoln– Aaron Copland’s beloved work\, Lincoln Portrait. \n\n\n\nRenowned NFL player\, veteran\, actor and speaker Rocky Bleier will narrate the Copland piece. James Gourlay\, well known to Pittsburgh audiences as the Music Director of River City Brass Band\, will lead Duquesne University’s Wind Symphony. \n\n\n\nAaron Copland composed Lincoln Portrait in 1942\, during the dark\, frightening years of World War II. The orchestra score incorporates some of Lincoln’s most gripping oratory\, with the narrator speaking over the music. \n\n\n\nA dessert and coffee reception in the Lincoln Gallery follows the performance.Please note the time change to 3:00 pm.$20 in Advance$25 at the Door$5 for students with I.D. and children 12 and under.  \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\nVisit the Captain Thomas Espy Post!Come early and tour our Civil War Room\, a true national treasure.
