The Library will have a table at the Sun Dial\, at the corner of Main Street and Broadway. Join us all afternoon for two fun crafts: \n\n\n\nMake a Watermelon Fan! Kids of any age can color\, cut\, and glue to make their own watermelon fan – perfect for keeping cool as you enjoy the Arts Walk \n\n\n\nBlackout Poetry! If you can read\, you can make blackout poetry. Start with a page from an old book; pick a few words on the page that form a poem; then black out the rest. You’ll be surprised at the poetry you can find hidden in the text! \n\n\n\nDon’t forget to check out Library Park’s 117-ft. mosaic mural\, designed by Laura Jean McLaughlin and fabricated by 200 community members!

DESCRIPTION:Carnegie’s favorite jazz duo\, vocalist Jessica Lee and guitarist Mark Strickland return with “The Great Women of Jazz!” The evening is an intimate musical journey exploring the songs and stories of the great women of jazz. Jessica and Mark will perform songs celebrating the singers of the early years – the Blues of Mamie Smith and Bessie Smith and the Gospel music of Mahalia Jackson. They will journey into the Jazz Era featuring songs from Pittsburgh’s own Maxine Sullivan and those she influenced:  Billie Holiday; Sarah Vaughan; Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee. They’ll then enter the crossover genre of “Rhythm\, Jazz & Blues” with the songs of Etta James\, Aretha Franklin and Roberta Flack.
