SUMMARY:2nd Saturday Civil War Series: Battlefield Forensics: Examining Unique Medical Events at Gettysburg with Matt Lively
DESCRIPTION:Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9370579279Meeting ID: 937 057 9279**Please note this event will not be streamed via Facebook\, and will not be recorded for our YouTube channel** \n\n\n\nThe American Civil War is filled with incidents that illustrate some unique or interesting medical condition. In the Battle of Gettysburg\, such events occurred to individuals whose names are well known\, such as John Reynolds\, Lewis Armistead\, and of course\, Dan Sickles. But others may be more obscure\, like Collett Leventhorpe\, Lucius Fairchild\, and Elon Farnsworth. Utilizing both forensic medicine and medical history\, this talk will examine some of those events through the performance of a historical autopsy. \n\n\n\nBefore entering private practice three years ago\, Dr. Mathew Lively spent twenty years as a faculty physician at the West Virginia University School of Medicine where he conducted patient care\, teaching\, and research. He is the author of several articles on medical history topics and his first book\, Calamity at Chancellorsville: The Wounding and Death of Confederate General Stonewall Jackson\, was published by Savas Beatie in 2013.

SUMMARY:Certifying Your Property Pollinator Friendly!
DESCRIPTION:Pollinators need our help! Both native bees and domestic bee populations are declining\, affected by habitat loss\, disease and contact with pesticides. \n\n\n\nPenn State Extension Master Gardeners are taking action to protect pollinators by planting pollinator friendly gardens and providing education for the gardening public. You can join this effort by providing food and habitat for native insects/animals. Pollinators will\, in turn\, provide the pollination needed to protect our plant diversity and food sources. \n\n\n\nCertifying your property as “Pollinator Friendly” will help support a healthy ecosystem for our community and our future. This presentation with Master Gardener Chris VandenBosche will cover all of the reasons and steps necessary to apply for this important certification. \n\n\n\nRegistration is appreciated\, but walk-ins are welcome. Please click here to register.

SUMMARY:National Tattoo Day
DESCRIPTION:July 17 is National Tattoo Day! Join us to learn about the history and cultural significance of tattooing\, and share the stories behind your own tattoos! \n\n\n\nTattooing has been a part of human cultural expression for over 5\,000 years – the first known tattooed person is Ötzi\, the Iceman\, whose mummified remains were discovered in the Alps in 1991 (Ötzi had sixty-one individual tattoos!). Tattoos have been used in rites of passage\, as marks of bravery and accomplishment\, and as protective religious talismans. In the twentieth century\, tattoos have been associated with sailors\, prisoners\, and gang members; today tattoos are so mainstream that almost everyone knows someone with some ink. \n\n\n\nJoin artist Tony Frank of Infinite Image Tattoo Studio and photographer Mark Perrott\, author of Tattoo Witness\, as they discuss this unique field of art. Afterwards\, we invite attendees to share a few words about the personal meaning behind your own tattoos! If you would like to speak\, please indicate that when you register. \n\n\n\nRegistration is appreciated\, but not required for attendees who do not wish to speak. If you do wish to speak\, registration is required. Please click here to register! \n\n\n\nInterested in speaking? We ask that each speaker keep your comments to around five minutes or less. Please ensure that your story is PG-13 rated or lower. If the tattoo you wish to share is on a part of your body normally covered by clothing\, you may bring a photograph to share (no nudity in the photo\, please).
