SUMMARY:"The Day the Klan Came to Town": A small group book discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this meeting of “Embracing Our Differences\,” our group that explores and discusses issues of race\, diversity\, and social justice! \n\n\n\nToday we’ll discuss The Day the Klan Came to Town (PM Press\, 2021)\, written by Bill Campbell and illustrated by Bizhan Khodabandeh. On Wednesday\, August 23\, join us for a special panel discussion with author Bill Campbell\, illustrator Bizhan Khodabandeh\, and representatives from the Carnegie Historical Society and the Heinz History Center! \n\n\n\nRegistration is appreciated. Please click here to register for the book discussion.

SUMMARY:"The Day the Klan Came to Town": A Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:On August 25\, 1923\, thousands of members of the Ku Klux Klan descended upon Carnegie in a show of force and intimidation. The night of chaos and violence that followed would leave its marks in the memory of Carnegie’s residents for many years to come. \n\n\n\nTonight\, we mark the 100th anniversary of the day that Carnegie stood up to the Klan\, driving them out of the Borough and weakening their influence in Western Pennsylvania. \n\n\n\nJoin members of the Heinz History Center\, the Carnegie Historical Society\, and the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall\, as well as author Bill Campbell and artist Bizhan Khodabandeh of the graphic novel The Day the Klan Came to Town (PM Press\, 2021) for a moderated panel discussion exploring the events of that day\, the research that went into creating the book\, and what we can learn today from the resistance of ordinary people in Carnegie a century ago. \n\n\n\nA reception with the panelists follows the program. Refreshments courtesy of State Representative Anita Astorino Kulik \n\n\n\nThis is a ticketed event and seats are limited! Please register to attend: \n\n\n\n\nStudents: Free admission. Click here to register.\n\n\n\nNon-students: $10.
