By 1865\, Washington was surrounded: 68 major forts supported by 93 detached batteries mounting over 900 guns and connected by 32 miles of military roads encircled the capital. Fortress Washington ensured the defense of the United States government. This lecture explains how. \nSteve T. Phan is a historian residing in Washington DC. A military history scholar of the Civil War era\, Phan’s research focuses on military occupation\, operational command\, and fortifications during the Civil War. He is the author of articles about Asians and Pacific Islanders in the Civil War and the Defenses of Washington for numerous publications. He holds a Master’s degree in American History from Middle Tennessee State University. He is the Acting Chief of Interpretation Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers Nation Monument for the National Park Service. \n  \n2nd Saturday Lecture Series made possible by the Massey Charitable Trust.

DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, September 27\, 2020\n1:30 & 3:30 PM \nCall to Reserve Your Seat  412-276-3456 x6 \nThe Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall in collaboration with Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble\, Carnegie Performing Arts Center\, and Nandanik Dance Troupe present: INSIDE OUT – a dance show in the great outdoors! \nWe’re not yet able to gather inside the Music Hall and Studio but some of the Carnegie Carnegie’s favorite dance groups have put together a one of a kind performance outside in our parking lot. \nSeating is limited. Chairs will be distanced and preset by reservation in our parking lot so that you can enjoy the show with your ‘pod squad.’ Masks are required at all times on our grounds. Public restrooms are available indoors. \n TICKETS $10 \nA limited number of tickets will be available at the “door.” Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to showtime to purchase tickets. \nCall 412-276-3456 x6 to reserve your seat today. \n Q: What if it rains?\nA: If rain is a threat on the day of the performance we will make the weather call no later than 8am on 9/27/20. We will announce the cancellation on our website and by email to ticket holders. Ticket holders may receive a refund or credit toward a future performance. \nQ: What if I need to cancel my reservation?\nA: If you’re not feeling well\, please do not attend. Please call us prior to the event and we will issue you a refund of your ticket. We are unable to offer refunds after the event time. \nQ: If we’re sitting in the parking lot\, where do we park?\nA: Very limited parking will be available in our parking lot on a first come\, first served basis for guests with accessible parking placards. Free parking is available on Beechwood Avenue hill and on Main Street. Out of consideration to our neighbors\, we encourage Music Hall patrons not to park in the residential areas of Beechwood Avenue or Home Street. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
