SUMMARY:The Pittsburgh Savoyards present "The Yeomen of the Guard"
DESCRIPTION:For all ticket inquiries contact Pittsburgh Savoyards at 412-734-8476 or tickets@pittsburghsavoyards.org \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober 9-11 & 16-18Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 PM | Sundays at 2:30 PMLove\, loyalty\, and deception collide in the shadow of the Tower of London. Colonel Fairfax\, a nobleman wrongly sentenced to death\, hatches a daring last-minute scheme to keep his fortune out of his scheming cousin’s hands. His plan pulls in Elsie Maynard\, a spirited traveling singer\, along with the Tower’s colorful residents\, setting off a whirl of disguises\, mistaken identities\, and tangled romances. \n\n\n\nPremiered at London’s Savoy Theatre in 1888\, Yeomen was Gilbert & Sullivan’s eleventh collaboration and is often considered their most heartfelt. It has all the wit and unforgettable melodies audiences love\, but as the laughter gives way to real tenderness and heartbreak\, it becomes something rarer: a story about honor\, sacrifice\, and the unpredictable nature of love. Don’t miss the Savoyards’ take on one of the most distinctive works in the G&S canon\, live in the Music Hall this October. \n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\nFor all ticket inquiries contact Pittsburgh Savoyards at 412-734-8476 or tickets@pittsburghsavoyards.org

SUMMARY:Understanding Muslims & Arabs: A lecture with Ray Milhem
DESCRIPTION:Islam is a global religion. Many people in Western countries don’t understand it and fear it. This can lead people to feel cautious\, careful\, or fearful of Islam\, or in some cases\, avoid it altogether or hate it due to a lack of knowledge on the topic. \n\n\n\nIn this illuminating yet clear presentation\, join Ray Milhem for an exploration of the basics of Islam; its relationship with other religions; and the tight coupling of Islam and Arabs\, comparable to the role of Christianity in the West. \n\n\n\nThe Holy Land (Palestine) was the birthplace of Christianity and Judaism. Islam was “born” in the Arabian Peninsula (modern day Saudi Arabia)\, but it has many strong connections to the Holy Land. \n\n\n\nWe will also discuss “Extreme Islam” and its similarities to “Extreme Christianity” and “Extreme Judaism.” \n\n\n\nPlease note: this presentation is intended as a safe space for education. Hate speech\, bigotry\, and any other violation of the Library’s Behavior Policy will not be tolerated during this program. \n\n\n\nRegistration is appreciated\, but walk-ins are welcome.
