  1. Dear Ms. Forbes & Ms. Klinefelter,

Since the Appalachian Trail runs through your state, I wanted to let you know about a project that Eden Valley and FilmAffects have been working on to document the life of legendary hiker “Grandma” Emma Gatewood — first woman to solo thru-hike the 2,050-mile Appalachian Trail in 1955 at the age of 67 after raising 11 children and surviving domestic abuse.

We have produced a storytelling program (with a companion DVD and e-book), a one-act play and a documentary which recently premiered on WOUB/PBS. (You can find complete information about this project at http://edenvalleyenterprises.org/progdesc/gatewood/gtwdinf.htm )

The documentary is available on DVD and I am hoping that you would like to add it to your collection. A price list is available at http://edenvalleyenterprises.org/progdesc/gatewood/tmfilminf/dvdtmlibfrm.pdf

If you would like information about hosting an event to tell this story to your patrons (or to find out about all of our programs and publications), feel free to e-mail me at blheve@edenvalleyenterprises.org or call me at 440-284-4828.

    Thanks!

    • Thanks for letting us know about your program and DVD. We will check it out for inclusion in our collection. If you are ever in the Carnegie, PA area, please let us know.

      Library Director
